Friday, February 27th

Learning Targets:
Students will show empathy for those who suffered on the Trail of Tears, and see the imperfections our Republican Government has.

What we did:
1. No Starter
2. We watched to rest of the video "Trail of Tears" but did not turn in the worksheet.

If you were absent:
1. Watch the video "Trail of Tears on YouTube and fill in your worksheet.
2. On Monday, we will correct the worksheet and turn it in.

Learning Targets:
Students will think about their futures and register with Utah Scholars to get financial aid for college.

What we did:
1. No Starter
2. We had a guest speaker talk about Utah Scholars.  Go see you counselor with questions.

1. You don't need to do anything unless you haven't registered with Utah Scholars yet.  Go to utahscholars.org to register.

Learning Targets:
Students will develop empathy for the Native Americans during the Indian Removal.

What we did:
1. No Starter
2. Watched "Trail of Tears" and filled out a worksheet with it.

1. Get the movie worksheet from here or from the blue binder in class.
2. Watch the first 35 minutes of the video "Trail of Tears" here.  

Homework assigned or turned in:
*Be Sure your Chapter 8 Vocabulary Packet is turned in.  It's blue!

Monday and Tuesday, February 23rd and 24th

Learning Targets:
Students can summarize Jackson's presidency and specifically name the Nullification Crisis and the Indian Removal Act.

What we did:
1. No Starter
2. Starters were corrected and we called in the scores.
3. Took notes using a handout found here and with the PowerPoint found here.
4. The table at the bottom of the handout is done using the textbook on page 333.

If you were absent:
1. Correct your Starters (you should have 15 total) and put a score out of 150 at the top. Then stamp absent and place in pink basket.

2. Use the links above or a classmate to get the notes you missed.  The handout is also in the blue binder.

Students will continue summarizing the events during President Monroe and Adams.

Students can remember procedures for turning in late and absent work.

Students can recall the basics of the Monroe Doctrine, Erie Canal, and claiming Florida.

What we did:
1. Starter: 1) What are the steps to turn in late or absent assignments? 2) How long after an absence do you have to turn in absent work?

2. Took notes on Ch. 9

2. Get a white "Chapter 9 Notes" handout from the blue binder.
3. Click here to view the powerpoint and fill in the blanks.  Compare to a classmates paper when you are done to be sure you have everything you need.

Students can also evaluate what they think was the importance of the War of 1812.

3. Corrected the gold worksheet and turned it in.

1. You have ONE week from the day you return to take the quiz.  Come before/after school or during Plus to take the quiz.

Students will gain an appreciation for their country and flag through examination of the battle of Fort Mc Henry

1. Starter: What do you think are good reasons to go to war?
2. Finished the "American Ride" video and read the Star Spangled Banner.
3. Finished the gold paper and made a short study guide for the quiz tomorrow.

3. Study for the quiz on Chapter 7 and 8.

Students can identify the most important battles and people of the War of 1812.

What we did:
1. Starter: 1) How many terms did Jefferson serve? 2) Who was the 4th president? 3) Who did we go to war with in 1812?
2. Corrected the Vocabulary Packet and turned it in.
3. Received a worksheet on the War of 1812 and watched a video about the war as well.

If you were absent:
1. Do the Starter
2. Correct and turn in your Ch. 8 Vocabulary Packet
3. Get a gold "Ch. 8 Quiz" from the blue binder.  It's not a quiz.

Students can imagine and picture the trials and triumphs of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

What we did:

2. Finished the video on Lewis and Clark and finished the maps.

4. Worked on Maps and watched a video that we will be finishing tomorrow called "Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West"
5. Honors were assigned to make a Postcard

2. Corrected the XYZ Affair Worksheet and turned it in.

3. Worked with learning buddies on "Ch. 8: Jefferson Era" packet (on own sheet of paper) and most finished in class.

2. Correct your "XYZ Affair" worksheet and turn it in with the ABSENT stamp and into the pink basket.

3. Get a packet from me and you will need to step out when we correct the Ch. 8 assignment.  You have a week from your absence to make everything up.

2nd and 6th: Finished and corrected the XYZ Worksheet.

1. Do the Starter

2. If you are in 2nd or 6th Period: Correct and turn in your XYZ Worksheet.

3. If you are in 1st, 4th, 5th, or 7th: Get the notes from a classmate.

4. BE SURE you turn in a hard copy of your speech, either the Worksheet I gave you, or a printed copy.

What we did:
1. Starter: 1) How many articles are in the Constitution? 2) Who is the "Father of the Constitution?"

2. Worked in pairs on "Launching the Nation" packet (Ch. 7) and finished it in class.

3. Were assigned "Alien and Sedition Avatar" assignment.

If you were absent:
1. Do the Starter

2. Get a Ch. 7 Packet from me and on your own piece of paper, answer the questions.  If you are Honors, answer the Challenge Activity in Section 2 as well.

3. Get a buff colored "Alien and Sedition Avatar" assignment from the binder. Periods 1,4, 5, 7 are in the Lab, and we will work on it there in those classes.  It's Due Thursday.
